Shorty Skills

If you’ve looked into woven wraps you might have come across the term “shorty”. A shorty woven wrap is typically sizes 2 to 4 or 2.7m to 3.6m. If you’ve been interested in trying a shorty but not sure which size will work for you, a general guideline is 2-3 sizes smaller than your base size (your base size is what you comfortably use to do a front wrap cross carry). So if your base is a size size you might try a 2-3 for your short carries. While a shorty doesn’t allow as many wrapping possibilities as a longer wrap there are still several carries that can be done using a shorter length.

Some benefits of using  short wrap are that the carries are usually quicker to wrap due to the shorter length, less tail dragging on the floor/ground/dirty parking lots as you wrap babe up and can be cooler to wear in hot weather because of less material.

We held a shorty Skills workshop and here are some of the carries we taught 🙂

*When trying new carries be sure to always try in a comfortable surrounding and near a bed or couch or with someone to help spot you*

Rebozo with Slip Knot:

This is a great alternative to a ring sling and once you’ve figured out how to tie a slip knot it becomes an excellent carry for getting lil one up quickly. Recommended size: 2-3

Short Cross Carry Tied at Shoulder/Slip Knot:

This is a nice front carry that you tie first and then put baby into. It is also good for any kiddos who like to pop out of their seats because the passes go between their legs and prevent them from straightening out of the carry. There is also a knotless variation that uses a sling ring Recommended Size: 3-4

Ruck:

This is the first carry we teach when someone is first trying back carries. It is the simplest back carry and helps teach the techniques of creating a seat and tightening the rails/wrap for a secure carry. This is another carry that has a lot of different variations. You can tie at shoulder, under bum or wrap around your waist and tie in front. Recommended size: 2-4
