That’s right baby wearing mamas, daddies, and friends – we are celebrating International Babywearing Week with babywearing groups around the world! How exciting is that? So come out, celebrate, and share your babywearing pride and passion with Kitsap County as we focus on this year’s theme: Share the Adventure!
International Babywearing Week is an annual outreach event sponsored by Babywearing International. It is a week-long opportunity to promote, celebrate, advocate for, and bring media attention on the numerous benefits of babywearing.
Prizes! Prizes! PRIZES!
This year we will be celebrating International Babywearing Week by having in-person and online activities so that everyone can be involved all week long. All with fabulous giveaways and so much fun. There will be small giveaways at each event as well as a grand prize giveaway of a Sakura Bloom Ring Sling on Saturday for Instagram participation. Each day our amazing Instagram Admin, Jennifer Duer, will post a question of the day. You simply post your picture to answer that question and you are entered. (Only one entry per person per day.) Be sure to be following @bwi_kitsap for the question and then tag #ibw2014, #bwikitsap, and @bwi_kitsap in order for your entry to be registered. Instagram entries will not be accepted after 1pm on Saturday, October 11. For the in-person events, you get an entry for attending and an additional entry for wearing your BWI of Kitsap Peninsula shirt. (More about how to purchase these to follow.)
2014 International Babywearing Week Events
Sunday Kick-off (October 5): BWI of Kitsap Peninsula Meeting at Keyport Bible Church, 3:30pm-5pm
Come help us kick-off International Babywearing Week at our monthly meeting. We will have a usual meeting format with a demonstration of the basic carrier types, opportunities for questions and answers, and carrier check-out. Accompanying all of this we will have BWI of Kitsap Peninsula t-shirt sales. (I told you I would get to it.) Wear a BWI of KP shirt to any event during the rest of the week and get an additional entry for that event’s giveaway. Members can purchase their t-shirts in advance at our North meeting coming up on Sunday, September 14 at Keyport Bible Church at 3:30pm. (Members wear your shirt to the kick-off meeting and get an extra entry that day!) T-shirts will be $20 with the proceeds going to BWI of KP to expand our lending library. We have sizes from S-XXL. If you decide to become a member (which why wouldn’t you?!) at the kick-off you will get an extra entry into our Sunday giveaway.

Match-up Monday (October 6): Bowling at All Star Lanes, 4pm-5pm
Who doesn’t love some friendly competition? Grab some friends and come bowling with us at All Star Lanes in Silverdale. This is definitely an event for the whole family and a great opportunity to get your hubby to see all the awesome babywearing dads. I know I will be bringing my babywearing hubby! The cost is $8/person and there is a military discount available.
Take a picture Tuesday (October 7): Babywearing Photoshoot at Long Lake
Have your babywearing joy captured by Ashley Renee of Beautiful Beginnings Birth Services. Ashley will be holding 20 minute sessions and providing you 5 images for $40. You will be able to book your sessions with Ashley for that day from 10am until 7pm. She will be taking a break between 12pm-1pm and 4pm-5pm. Some of the proceeds for this event will be donated to BWI of Kitsap Peninsula so that we can expand our lending library. Her photographs are beautiful and truly capture the babywearing love. Whack it Wednesday (October 8): Mini Golf at Timberland off of Waaga Way, 4pm-5pm
Bring your family out to whack some balls at Mini Golf. Babywearing makes Mini Golf fun for the whole family. The cost for this event is $4/person if we have more than 15 people. So grab all your babywearing and non-babywearing friends and come on down!
Thrilling Thursday (October 9): Weather dependent Tacoma outing, 11am
Let’s spread the babywearing love in Pierce County. The weather will decide if we will be heading to Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium or The Tacoma Children’s Museum. The final destination will be decided the morning of. On a sunny day we will head to the zoo. If you have never been to PDZA, you will absolutely love it. It is such a fun place. If the rain comes a calling, we will head to the museum. This place has rave reviews and is fun for all ages. So grab your favorite carrier and pack a lunch as we hop on over to Tacoma. Flash Mob Friday (October 10): Flashmob at Kitsap Mall, TBA
You know you have always wanted to be in a Flash Mob. Well here is your chance! Our amazing VBE Kellie Greenhill will be choreographing a babywearing flashmob to share our babywearing pride. Stay tuned for details.
Super Saturday (October 11): Corn Maze Finale at Pheasant Fields Farm in Silverdale, 2pm-4pm
Let’s go out with a bang at Pheasant Fields Farm! We will be closing International Babywearing Week by walking through the Corn Maze. This activity is definitely made easier by babywearing. Especially if it is muddy! We are getting a special group rate so you don’t want to miss this opportunity. The maze will be $5 for adults and only $3 for kids! After you navigate your way out of the maze, don’t disappear! We will be doing our final giveaways including the Instagram grand prize of a Sakura Bloom Ring Sling at 4pm! (You remember, right? A picture a day to answer the question of the day? Ok. Good!)
